Our History and mission

History

Winterbourne Early Years Centre is a registered charitable organisation overseen by a parent committee, and managed on a day to day basis by an Early Years Professional and a team of qualified and experienced Early Years Practitioners.

The centre originated in 1964 as a playgroup held in St Michael’s rooms, moving to the Greenfield Centre, in 1996. In April 2013, the pre-school expanded its provision to open ‘Little Bears room’ specifically for 2-3 year old children, and retained three free community baby and toddler groups, initially started by the Winterbourne SureStart Centre.

In September, 2016, we expanded our provision once again, working with St Michaels Primary School in Winterbourne to provide a preschool for three and four year olds within the school site.  This September (2017) we are working with the school and South Gloucestershire Council on an exciting project to create a new preschool room on the school site, which will provide greater opportunity for children to learn and develop through forest school outdoor experiences.
