Our History and mission

History

Winterbourne Early Years Centre is a registered charitable organisation overseen by a parent committee, and managed on a day to day basis by an Early Years Professional and a team of qualified and experienced Early Years Practitioners.

The centre originated in 1964 as a playgroup held in St Michael’s rooms, moving to the Greenfield Centre, in 1996. In April 2013, the pre-school expanded its provision to open ‘Little Bears room’ specifically for 2-3 year old children.

In September, 2016, we expanded our provision once again, working with St Michaels Primary School in Winterbourne to provide a preschool for three and four year olds within the school site.  In September, 2017, we  worked with the school and South Gloucestershire Council to provide a greater opportunity for children to learn and develop through forest school outdoor experiences on site.

2019/20 once again opens up new opportunities for our community by offering a Baby/Toddler Groups on a Monday mornings (930-1130am) in our Little Bears room in the Greenfield Centre as well as offering Monday – Friday provision in both our Big Bear and Rainbow Bear rooms.

2020/21 Due to extra needs of our families, the centre has been able to provide extra sessions for our Little Bears. Now opening up for Tues-Fri all day)

2021/22 Continues to offer full term time hours Mon-Fri 9-3pm  and Tues-Fri 9-3pm for our Little Bears – early bookings are recommended due to the centre thriving and welcoming a record number of families.
